Healing process

Actual Age: 3 months, 1 week, 5 days
Adjusted Age: 3 weeks

Eden is healing fairly well, she did have a positive culture for an infection but it was caught really early and she is being treated with antibiotics. She is no longer needing the Morphine so she's much more alert. This is a good thing and a bad thing-we LOVE seeing her eyes open and her responding to us, sucking her pacifier, following our voices and just being so adorable. But on the other hand, she is still healing so she can't move her head/neck too much and especially not pull on her trach tube. We are anxious for her to heal quickly so that we can cuddle her in our arms again! She hit 5lbs this week!! Growing is the best medicine for these girls- it will help heal their lungs.

Reagan has spent the last 3 days sleeping more than normal, I hope that she is having a growth spurt. She has reflux and her MD is pretty conservative so we are monitoring it closely. We are still watching her breathing and lungs very closely.

Scott and I are also going through a healing process... grieving the "typical" baby activities that we're missing out on and the major change that has impacted our lives for the next two years (Eden's trach). But this week I was touched deeply by a friend reaching out with kind words and a relevant verse from James 1:12, "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him."

  2. Don't know if you even remember us but we were one of the couples leading a small group at Grouplink (Trevor and Meghan used to be in our small group). I was reading 1 Kings 19 this morning and thought of you guys. Elijah was having a rough time and he called out to God, "Enough of this, God!" He just wanted all his troubles to be over. He then fell asleep. An angel came to him and said "Get up and eat". He ate the food provided him and went back to sleep. The angel said to him again, "Get up and eat some more. You've got a long journey ahead of you." He ate the food provided him and, nourished by the meals, walked 40 days and nights all the way to the mountain of God. In the same way, God has got a journey all planned out for your family and He will give you what you need to sustain you for that journey. You just need to do what He asks of you, which right now is probably just loving those two precious girls and trusting that His ultimate destination for you is worth the journey. You are in our thoughts and prayers! ~Alana Nystrom

  3. Hi Amanda,
Thank you so much for your note. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Please know that mine are coming your way all the time too.
Your faith is inspiring. Mine wavers from time to time with everything we've gone through...so it is good to hear from someone who is still so strong.
Sending you and the girls lots of love and support.
    Take Care,
    Steph

  4. Oh Amanda. The things we treasure the most are the gifts from God. And the best things in life are worth the fight. I know it is hard to keep the faith sometimes. We have all been there. But what we forget is that He is right next to us and we have to lean on him and trust that He is right there crying with us and feeling the same pain. When I am feeling like my faith is shaken, I always think of that poem Footprints, where someone thought that Jesus was not there when they needed him most because there was only one set of footprints. But Jesus said, "that is when I carried you". He is the strength you find to face the situation each day...He is carrying you. He is holding your hand. Trust in that.

You are great parents and your little girls are so lucky to have you. They are so precious. One day you will put this all behind you and you will look at these little girls running circles around you and wonder if they ever were really sick because you can't see it now! Miracles work in mysterious ways.

    Keep the faith, MJ
